The Vegan Diet vs Carnivore Diet – since the beginning, one has had the advantage over the other for a lot of reasons.
One of those reasons being Veganism is prioritised over meat eating.
It’s in:
- Advertisements.
- Marketing drivel.
- YouTube.
- Blogs.
- Studies (regardless of bias or truth).
- Health sites.
And pretty much everyone involved in politics or media pushes it to an extreme degree.
To be fair, the Carnivore Diet has its extremes as far as people promoting it, but it doesn’t have the backing of the mainstream, the “science”, medical doctors, big pharma, and so on.
That’s what makes it more impressive.
But which one is more popular in spite of that?
Let’s break it down!
Carnivore diet vs vegan diet May 2022 to May 2023
If judging in the last 12 months from a worldwide perspective, the carnivore diet is beating the vegan diet in terms of popularity and statistics (online).
This data comes straight from Google itself, which has a monster amount of data which few companies can claim to compare to.
Carnivore diet vs vegan diet in the past 5 years (2018-2023)
Overall, if we compare the last 5 years we can see the vegan diet has more popularity. And the Carnivore Diet, despite not being as popular years prior, still had its moments of “more” popularity when compared.
In fact, the spike you see in the image comes from February 2020, though I can’t say what that’s connected to.
The vegan diet dominated a little throughout the time of the pandemic. But lost its ground AFTER it ended, strangely (as 2022 began).
The Carnivore diet vs vegan diet from 2004 till today
As we can see from the image, if comparing the vegan diet to the carnivore diet from 2004 onwards (the year Google started recording this data), the vegan diet is the winner.
This isn’t surprising since I already pointed out how heavily the vegan diet is prioritized, marketed, promoted, and shoved down people’s throats in comparison to an all-meat diet.
Even non-food products have the “vegan” label attached to them.
This has been systematic since the 1970s or so on behalf of companies who were lining their pockets (not the vegans themselves necessarily).
Also, the carnivore diet has been gaining traction since 2017 when you view the chart. But the vegan diet has been declining since January 2018.
Maybe some vegans started jumping ship since then?

Top 7 vegan diet countries since 2022
- Jamaica.

- India.
- The Philippines.
- Pakistan.
Veganism and the vegan diet are MASSIVELY popular in these 7 countries.
The UK and India are shockingly high as far as interest, though I knew about It already on some level.
The Philippines and Israel are interesting ones.
Jamaica is also a surprising one when measured from 2022, as well as Ghana.

As you can see from the list, it’s mostly Europe since 2004 who’ve been highly and most interested in the carnivore diet.
Japan is another one since 2004.
But when comparing from 2022 till today, other parts of Europe open up like Bulgaria and Belgium.
Also, Australia makes it into the top 7 (Canada is in the top 10 by the way).

Percentage statistics worldwide – vegan vs carnivore
“Estimates vary, but according to the Vegetarian Resource Group, approximately 70-75 percent of the world’s population engages in the consumption of animal products, including meat.” – The Donut Whole
“Accoridng to Stats of 2023, there are approxiamtely 88 millino vegans in the world. (The VOU) since there were over 8 billion people in the world, that’s around 1.1%.” – World Animal Foundation
This shows you the large disparity between vegans and everyone else, not just those who exclusively eat meat over everything else.
Many people eat meat even if they also eat veg, and there’s no escaping its popularity despite decades of marketing.
Unrelated notes:
Interestingly, when looking at the related queries for both diets, there are both:
- Positive.
- Negative.
And neutral terms being searched, some of which are trending.
For example, related queries for the carnivore diet:
- Benefits of a carnivore diet.
- The carnivore diet almost killed me.
In comparison, the vegan diet-related queries that are trending:
- The great vegan diet con.
- 21 health benefits of a vegan diet.
- Is the vegan diet healthy?
Interpret the related queries any way you want. But it shows both diets:
- Work for many.
- But not for everyone.
Or people just have fears about each diet, probably because of the extremism of both ends.
In the end, the carnivore diet is now more popular than the vegan diet.
The vegan diet though has been popular for a long time thanks to mass marketing, mainstream media, etc.
Some will claim the carnivore diet is a fad (just like keto) for these reasons, but the facts will always play themselves out in time.
