Sainsbury’s is one of the UK’s biggest supermarkets, and owns the company Argos, making their stores one of the most convenient to go to (no pun intended).
A keto shopping list for Sainsbury’s is appealing for those of you who:
- Shop a lot with Sainsbury’s.
- Have a local Sainsbury near you.
- Do online shops with Sainsbury’s.
Or you’d like an idea of WHAT shopping with Sainsbury’s looks like if it’s related to a ketogenic diet.
Let’s talk about it.
Sainsbury’s Keto Shopping List:
1. Pantry Items
- Coconut oil.
- Avocado Oil.
- Ghee.
- Turmeric Tea.
- Lemongrass Tea.
- Olive Oil.
- Cornish Sea Salt.
- Eggs.
The good thing about coconut oil is all of it is legitimate and you can’t go wrong with Sainsbury’s.
Avocado oil is a unique one many don’t have a lot of but works well.
Same for Ghee, Turmeric tea, lemongrass tea, eggs, Olive Oil (extra virgin), and cornish sea salt which is one of the best offerings there is for keto pantry items.
Minerals and vitamins:
- Vitamin E.
- Vitamin A.
- Vitamin D.
- Vitamin K (eggs).
- Antioxidants.
- Anti-microbial and anti-fungal (coconut oil).
- B vitamins (eggs).
- Biotin (eggs).
- Electrolytes.
- Iron.
- Healthy fats.
2. Fruit & Vegetables
- Mixed Vegetables.
- Spring Onions.
- Spinach.
- Avocado.
- Tomatoes.
- Strawberries.
- Blueberries.
- Cauliflower Cheese.
Green peas, carrots, cauliflower, broccoli, and more make up the Sainsbury’s mixed vegetable pack.
Spring Onions are good for adding flavour to your dinner.
Spinach is loaded with potassium, and eating it with cheese will nullify the effects of oxalates (Calcium).
Avocado is full of healthy fats, electrolytes, vitamin E and more. Plus it’s filling.
The rest like Tomatoes, strawberries, blueberries, and cauliflower cheese make this a healthy, nutrient-dense list for those who are OK with these foods (Tomatoes are nightshades).
Vitamins and minerals:
- Vitamin A (pre-vitamin A).
- Vitamin C.
- Vitamin K1.
- Calcium.
- Potassium.
- Magnesium.
- Vitamin E.
- Healthy fats.
- Antioxidants.
3. Meat & Seafood
- Seafood Selection (Mussels, Prawns, Squid).
- King Prawns.
- Mackerel.
- Salmon.
- Kipper.
- Lamb Liver.
- Seafood Salad (Squid, Mussels, Cuttlefish).
- Chicken Drumsticks.
I’ve added a lot of seafood to this section for meats and seafood, like prawns, squid, mackerel, kipper, etc. All of which are loaded with Omega 3, zinc, iodine, and others.
Lamb Liver is a major superfood as well.
Vitamins and minerals:
- B vitamins.
- Zinc.
- Iodine.
- Omega 3.
- Copper.
- Vitamin A.
- Protein.
- Potassium.
- Magnesium.
- Iron.
- Calcium.
- COQ10.
- Selenium.
- Some vitamin C.
- Vitamin E.
- Vitamin K2.

4. Dairy Foods
- Mature Cheddar.
- Greek Feta.
- Parmigiano.
- Emmental.
- Mozzarella.
- Edam.
- Goat’s Cheese.
- Lurpak Butter.
Cheddar, Edam, Feta, Emmental, and Goat’s cheese all have the most Vitamin K2. That said, all have calcium, fats, protein, copper, zinc, iodine, and plenty of others.
Butter and cheddar along with Edam are fattiest.
Vitamins and minerals:
- Vitamin E.
- Vitamin K2 (high).
- Vitamin A (high).
- Vitamin D.
- B12 (and other b vitamins).
- Zinc.
- Iodine.
- Calcium (highest).
- Magnesium.
- Potassium (most in European cheese).
- Copper.
- Choline.
- Healthy fats and protein.

5. Dairy Free
- Pure Buttery Spread.
- Vitalite Spread.
- Almond Milk.
- Oat Milk.
- Coconut Milk.
- Pure Olive Spread.
- Alpro Fruit Yoghurt.
- Cashew Milk.
The “pure” spreads at Sainsbury’s are some of the best options you have for keto and dairy-free products. But it does have rapeseed oil if you take issue with that.
As for the others, there are some nutrients, but not many compared to their original counterparts.
Vitamins and minerals:
- Vitamin D (fortified).
- Antimicrobial.
- Antiviral.
- Antifungal.
- Small amounts of fat or protein.
- Vitamin E.
- Vitamin A (small amounts).
6. Sweeteners (caution)
- Erythritol
- Truvia Sweetener.
- Rowse Cut Comb Honey.
- Canderel Sugarly Zero.
- Stevia.
- Vanilla Extract.
- Orange Extract.
- Peppermint Extract.
I don’t like recommending sweeteners in general because so many of them are bad, to begin with.
If you must, Erythritol is one of the best along with Stevia, and the extracts of many flavours.
Honey is only OK if you stick to your serving sizes and nothing more.
The rest like Sugarly Zero has aspartame inside of it, so you either test it, or you run a mile.
Either way, these are the best keto sweeteners you can get from Sainsbury’s in particular.
7. Fermented Foods
- Biotiful Kefir.
- Organic Kefir Yoghurt.
- Water Kefir.
- Raw Kimchi.
- Sauerkraut.
- Tempeh.
- Tofu.
- Kombucha.
Biottiful Kefir is sour as you’d expect as a fermented milk filled with good bacteria. And it not being sweet means you’ll portion control with ease if you still have a sweet tooth.
Kefir yoghurt and water kefir are other options that are still healthy and keto friendly (don’t have too much yoghurt).
Kombucha is a healthy fermented drink from Sainsbury’s, along with Kimchi, Sauerkraut, Tempeh and Tofu (the latter being soy).
Vitamins and minerals:
- Vitamin K1.
- Vitamin C.
- Protein.
- Fats.
- Potassium (high).
- Vitamin K2.
- Iron.
- Magnesium.
- Calcium.
- Good bacteria.
8. Sauce & Seasoning
- Onion Salt.
- Italian Herbs.
- Red Pesto.
- Green Pesto.
- Paprika.
- Oregano.
- Rosemary.
- Turmeric.
Sainsbury’s is good enough that they tell you how many carbs are inside of each seasoning, with a lesser amount showing you per teaspoon or tablespoon.
Turmeric is on the higher end so use this sparingly. But you’re good with all of these sauces and seasonings whether it’s per teaspoon (seasonings), or per 100g (sauces).
Vitamins and minerals:
- Vitamin C.
- Vitamin K1.
- Pre-vitamin A.
- Antioxidants.
- Antimicrobial.
- Antifungal.
- Potassium.
- Magnesium.
- Calcium.
